Homecoming Spirit Week

November 15, 2022

Many students and staff participated in the Homecoming spirit week, which was held on October 11- 14.

The dress-up days included: decades day, black and white day, twin day, and blue and gold day.

Many people who participated enjoyed decades day the most, and most wore clothes from the 80’s or 90’s. When asked why, many said it was because they still had clothes in their closet from that time, or for the teachers, that the clothes were what they wore when they were teenagers.

Sophomore Kayla Ingram said, “I chose the 80’s because it was a cool timeline with cool clothes.”

Another student chose clothes from a different decade.

“I chose a 90’s theme because I had a lot of fitting clothes for it,” said sophomore Eren Douglas.

Some also said it was nostalgic to be able to dress in clothes similar to the ones they wore in the past.

“I think decades day has the most room for far-out nonsense, so it was probably my favorite. I chose to go with the 80’s because it’s got a distinctive look that stands out as its own thing; I was a 90’s kid, but the 80’s had a bold, kind of ridiculous vibe that I find entertaining,” said English teacher Grant Leonard.

Twin day was also well liked. Multiple teachers dressed up as ‘M&M’s’, and other students and staff twinned with friends or family in the building.

People also enjoyed the Black and White Day, as it was a day almost everyone could participate.

KRAM media student Kaiden Landrum said, “Because it was something cool to do; it was something different.”

“My favorite spirit day this year was black and white day. I believe spirit days should be inclusive and because every student and staff member has something black or white that they could wear to participate, everyone can be involved,” said German teacher Brittany Farrell.

Most students and teachers who participated tried to participate in all of the days they could, whether it was because they wanted to have fun or because they wanted to show their school spirit.

Paraprofessional Terri Bracy said, “I try to participate in as many spirit events as possible. I want the students to know I support them and the school.”

Many were excited for the upcoming pep rally and dance, and used the spirit week to show their excitement.

“I chose to participate in spirit week to help the entire school gear up for homecoming and the pep rally. It was really nice to see the school come together and show their enthusiasm for sports, band, etc. and I was just happy to be a part of it!” said math teacher James McDonald.

Of course, students and staff do have different ideas for spirit days in the future, such as: dress like a teacher day, BBQ Dads and Soccer Moms day, a holiday themed day, and a farmer or cowboy day.
