Fishing is a lot of fun but it isn’t when you don’t get any fish, and the best way to make sure you have a successful day is to pick the right fishing spot.
To pick a good fishing spot, you first need to know what kind of fish you want to catch. Let’s say we’re going to fish for bass–the best place to fish is in a shallow cove.
Put a lure on the hook, and add a bobber about two to three feet away. Then, just cast out and let it work. This method will work on just about any kind of fish, any place.
When fishing for bass, looking for rocks, bridge pillars, fallen trees, or foreign objects in the water are a good place to start. Basses hang out near things rather than in the open water, because there is a lot of shade, which they seem to favor; plenty of shelter; and lots of food. but be careful, this also poses issues for snagging your line.
Other fish live in shallow coves. To fish for bass you can use many types of bait, but the most effective is the common worm or senkos.
There are certain techniques for fishing bass. One commonly used technique is called skip the bait. When you cast, stop halfway instead of following through the entire way. This makes the lure hit the surface of the water a few feet before the fish, so the lure skips over the water. It’s a good way to get under docks and other places.
On the other hand, any place where a stream changes direction is a good place to find trout. In streams, where the spring water wells up lazily along the creek bed, a corner or bend is the best place for trout because holes get scoured out, offering deeper water.
The broken water in areas provides both protection from predators and the rocks and uneven bottom provide protection from the current.
The other important thing is knowing what time of day the trout are active, because you don’t want to go fishing for a fish when they aren’t active.
The best time of day to catch trout is early morning from dawn until two hours after sunrise, and the second best time of day is late afternoon from hours hours prior to sunset until dusk.
There are certain techniques for fishing trout. There is traditional fishing and fly fishing. Fly fishing is when you use a weighted line to cast or otherwise present to a fish an unweighted object like a fly. Traditional fishing uses a weightless line to present to a fish a weighted object some type of hard or soft lure or something natural.
