Do you play a sport? If you said no here are 5 reasons you should start.

First, high school sports are a great way to make new friends. Having new friends can be a good thing because most likely that friend will introduce you to other friends who can ultimately have your back and help with problems.

Sports also offers the unique opportunity to work with and befriend people in different grades who you’ve never met but they could end up being amazing friends.

“High school students should be active in something outside of school because they should try things that the school provides for them to do because it opens up options, to make new friends and find interests that they might not know they have.” Athletic Trainor Blake Knecht

The second reason is to have a healthy body. A healthy body is a great thing to strive for because once you reach your goal you will have boosted your confidence in yourself. Plus a healthy body just makes you feel better.

Regular physical activities like sports are one of the most important things you can do for your health because being physically active can improve your brain health, help manage weight, reduce the risk of disease, strengthen bones and muscles, and improve your ability to do everyday activities.

The third reason is sports will help you with teamwork skills, which help you in everyday life and you will be using them for the rest of your life. It will also improve your problem-solving skills which are very important for school and jobs, so this will also help you later in life.

“Athletics are an extension of the classroom, while some people don’t like sitting in a classroom to learn sports give you the options to learn life lessons to use in real life that you might not be able to find in other aspects of your life.” Athletic Trainor Blake Knecht

The fourth reason is sports are a great stress reliever. When you play sports you can be free and have no stress because sports relax your mind and you don’t have to worry about anything. You can let your mind take a rest and just have fun.

“Athletics give you a release of social and emotional feelings that you may have, so being in a sport gives you a chase to release the stress and feelings you have and you can relax and have fun instead of worrying.” Athletic Trainor Blake Knecht

The last reason is many athletes improve academically with better grades, focus, and pay attention better. This works because athletes cannot be failing classes or they get dire consequences like not being able to play or even possibly getting kicked off the team.

But also since your mind was able to be relaxed during sports your brain gets a break so it’s ready to work when you go to school which helps you pay attention and overall get better grades.
