Is Too Many Friends A Bad Thing?

When you’re surrounded by 100’s of people every day, not to mention the millions of possibilities on social media, having a smaller friend group is better for so many reasons.

One of the most beneficial reasons for keeping your friend group small is that working out issues is much easier. Instead of talking behind one another’s backs or keeping secrets, talking it out is more effective and respectful. With a small group, even arguments between two people can be solved without issue.

“I think smaller friend groups are better because there’s more trust within each other; it’s harder for your info to get out,” said junior Peyton Chandler

Having just a few close friends means you really know each other, and you go far beyond surface-level acquaintances.

“There’s more trust I can be myself,”said junior Maddie Boone.

Instead of having a ton of friends who barely know each other, why not have one or two people in this world that you know better than anyone? They are like family!

It’s also easier to do simple things: plan hangouts, organize a party, decide on which movie to see.

Sophomore Logan Schepers agreed: “Easy communication, easy to make plans, cheaper for events, simple and sweet.”

I feel that having a small group of people who you can really trust can also help your mental health. Because mental health is such an important focus right now, people want to to do anything they can to better their own.

Having that small group is really like a safe place.

Not only is spending time with friends fun, but it also yields a multitude of long-term physical and emotional health benefits according to Everyday Health.

Because friends can make such a big impact on people’s lives, for good or for bad, don’t you think you want to find the people who really will be there and help you?

Having positive, close friendships really is so beneficial in so many ways as you can see. As explained, being around positive people you can trust and be yourself around is the best feeling, and I just feel that everyone deserves to feel safe and know they have people they can depend on!
