How Music Inspires Fashion : Star Boy’s Influence

Noah Roach

Producer Star Boy was recently featured in the soundtrack for this year’s Givenchy’s Fall/Winter show at Paris fashion week.

Star Boy isn’t aligned with Givenchy or the fashion show that featured his music, but soundtracks act as an important piece of fashion shows, they add the mood or vibe that the show wants to portray.

Thus giving light to Star Boy’s “clout”. Givenchy choosing to feature Star Boy as a piece of the soundtrack shows the vision for the brand and the market they might appeal to.

Star Boy has received a large amount of attention on social media, as well as a very loyal fanbase in relation to his experimental take on traditional beats.

The Dutch producer created tracks for a highly anticipated album that built years worth of hype, Playboi Carti’s Whole Lotta Red. Rolling Stone voted Whole Lotta Red their top album in the path of its release.

The album had a much different sound than Carti’s older music. He had dawned a new taste for fashion, and a new aesthetic for the album.

The beats and production are what captured the album’s audience, much of which was credited to Star Boy. He is also prominent for other rappers, producing for Trippie Redd, Lil Uzi Vert, Dababy, and upcoming Ken Carson.

It is unknown when Star Boy started producing, but his first placements on song credits were in 2017. By 2018, he had begun making loops that Jetsonmade bought.

His minor relationship with Jetsonmade led to a placement on Dababy’s single “BOP” in 2019, a massive song that earned impressive numbers.

He is credited as a pioneer of the new “rage” scene, fueled by the likes of Trippie Redd, Playboi Carti, and Lil Uzi Vert. Star Boy has done work for all three on some of their biggest songs.

This new style is still in its infancy. Attention has been brought from TikTok, there’s huge subcultures for the fashion and music that inspires this scene.

Star Boy seems to show an interest in both the fashion and music mentioned before. His social media pages imply that he has a taste for high fashion and streetwear, as he is often seen wearing Prada, VETEMENTS, Chrome Hearts, and Rick Owens.

These brands are almost common for artists who have recently received enough money to buy them. All of these rappers that have received a little bit of attention rub off on each other style-wise, and lead to the style being found all over Los Angeles and the surrounding area.

Los Angeles is the place to be for upcoming influencers. A lot of rappers and associated acts are based out of LA or move there as soon as they get attention.

This, with some celebrity connections, may have led to his place in Givenchy’s show.
