What is your daily screen time? Most teenagers’ average screen time is between six and eight hours daily. That’s taking out a lot of time in the day that could be spent doing educational work or going outside and playing a sport.
It’s not just teenagers, though; it’s adults, as well. Adults spend an average of seven hours a day looking at a screen. Experts recommend less than two hours a day because of the different disadvantages of too much screen time. Teenagers spend approximately five hours just on social media alone, according to insider.com. Overuse of social media, along with too much screen time, can harm a child or teenager’s mental health, which can lead to a poor quality of life.
Social media can have a significant impact on someone’s life and can steer people in different ways that are unhealthy or unsafe. Examples include hazardous trends, like vandalizing property, jumping off of tall structures, and inhaling dangerous substances.
This is where a digital detox comes in. A digital detox is a period in which a person refrains from electronic devices, such as smartphones and computers. It can be anywhere from ten minutes to two hours to days without using your phone. This can steer people away from being on the internet too much, becoming addicted to it, and not being able to live without it. The only thing that’s wrong about this is that it can put people in a negative mood, as well as cause feelings of loneliness and isolation. However, the benefits include less stress, improved focus, better sleep, and enhanced relationships.
So, what do you think? Will you be doing a digital detox anytime soon?
