Instagram and TikTok are both popular apps used for content creation. Creators around the world have used both apps to help entertain and educate people. Once the creators get popular and get a following, they can make money off of sponsorships and brand deals, which can lead to a full-time career. Though both apps are popular, some people have an opinion on which app is better.
TikTok was first released in 2016. Instantly, it became the most popular app. Sophomore Taylor Price frequently watches TikTok for entertainment and educational purposes, and she believes it to be the superior app. She claims that Tiktok is the more trustworthy source “because on Instagram, a lot of people get hacked.” Price says, “On TikTok, you can repost things. [It’s] much more entertaining than Instagram shorts.”
TikTok and Instagram actually have a lot in common. On both apps, you can create, watch, and share videos. So, if they are so similar, why do people have a favorite? If you pay attention, you might find that some Instagram Reels are recycled TikToks, whereas TikTok has all new videos that have been posted recently. According to the digital marketing website, Embryo, “Instagram users spend 17.6 million hours a day watching Reels, while people spend an astounding 197.8 million hours a day on TikTok.”
Instagram was launched in 2010; this is also the year it got most popular. Freshman Gracie Miller posts on Instagram every so often and believes it is the better app. Miller says, “I think their information is more accurate. TikTok seems more made up because it’s all jokes.” She watches Instagram “every day” and believes that it is the more trustworthy app.
Though people have their own preferences, Tiktok and Instagram can both be valuable apps. If you want to discover something new or post your recent pictures, then Instagram might be the better option. Nonetheless, TikTok might be the better choice if you just want to watch something for entertainment.

I love this article and the use of student view points. Providing the “pros” and “cons” of each app allows the reader to see both sides regardless of their preference. I did not realize that TikTok first became a thing in 2016. Great work!
