Throughout your high school years, you encounter many obstacles and situations you could not have even imagined. High schoolers were given a Google form to express advice they wish they had been given before/during their high school careers. The advice varied, but specific ones stuck out to me.
“Express yourself the way you want to”
Any time you interact with people, your first thought may be, “What do they think of me?”. The worry of how other people perceive you is common, curiosity gets the best of you sometimes. Dressing how you want to dress, wearing the kind of makeup you like and even expressing your niche hobbies to others helps you to be yourself. So, although this quote might be short and simple, it is incredibly powerful.
“Slow down and enjoy the moment you are in because before you know it, your high school career will come to an end.”
As a junior in high school about to become a senior, this quote speaks to me. When you first enter high school, it can be the scariest thing in the world but having to leave it can also be just as scary. You get into the constant routine of going to school that the thought of no longer having somewhere to be and not having that daily routine is terrifying. Things might not be the same a couple years from now and all you’ll have is memories, so take in every single moment.
“Learn to be able to block things out and manage your time well otherwise things will become very stressful.”
School can be a lot sometimes with the workload or any drama that may be happening around you. Paying attention to the work you need to complete and staying on top of everything significantly helps to lower your stress levels. Stress can lead to many other big and small issues which is why it’s best to avoid situations that can cause it overall. The quote perfectly expresses how important managing your mental health is while in school to prevent any issues.

Time is by far the most valuable thing when you’re young, and if you don’t spend it well, you’ll live in regret. Do not be afraid to be open minded and prioritize yourself over school sometimes, everyone goes through things even behind closed doors. Give advice and help anyone you see struggling whether it’s mentally or academically, everyone matters.
