Whether you are a teenager or an adult, acne is something that may impact your life. People may often wonder what acne is and how it has impacted teens’ lives.
There are multiple different reasons one may experience acne on their face. For those who play a sport or frequently participate in physical activity, you are probably prone to sweating, and sweat is a leading cause for acne to form. Sweat on the skin can encourage acne-causing bacteria to grow and can clog and block pores.
Wearing loads of makeup everyday is also a way for one to develop acne. Even though wearing makeup may cover up the imperfections, in the long run, it doesn’t help with the main issue. Nowadays, people of all ages obsess over skincare products, but having the right skin care routine is important. Even with a solid routine, having the wrong skincare products, such as certain toners, can increase your acne. There are so many causes for breakouts to start, but what about ways to avoid them?
While some element to acne-prone skin is genetic, there are many ways to help prevent breakouts. One way to help reduce the spread is by washing your pillow cases often to help stop dirt and grime from touching your face. Eating foods with good nutritional value can help reduce acne; people should avoid sugary foods, as sugar increases the body’s production of sebum, which can cause acne. Since our hair naturally produces oils, washing hair often helps to regulate the amount of oil, as the oils cause acne.
Many teens can relate to having acne, but how has acne impacted teens’ self-esteem?
Freshman Macie Badders says, “It makes me want to stay home and not go to school.”
Meanwhile, another freshman, Lana Mattlin, states, “So many people struggle with acne, that they don’t care. Like, people can relate to you.”
High schoolers’ self-esteem due to acne seems to be drastically different depending on the person. Some people think acne has a bigger impact on the way we view ourselves than others.
There are many triggers that cause acne, but there are also an abundance of ways it can be prevented. Whether the struggle of acne impacts you or not, you are not alone.
