Kennard-Dale High School’s Drama Club performed “Frozen” for the spring musical this year. The production made its debut on Feb. 26. 2026, at 7:00 p.m. in the Kennard-Dale auditorium. After that, the next showings for the musical took place on Feb. 27 at 7:00 p.m., Feb. 28 at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., and on Mar. 1 at 3:00 p.m. for their final showing.
In this production, Clare Short (junior) played one of the leads, Elsa, the queen with magical ice powers. Short has been acting since she was seven. She has played previous roles in KD musicals and plays such as Lisa in “Mama Mia”, ensemble in “The Wizard of Oz”, and Violet in “Charlie and The Chocolate Factory”.
When asked about her favorite scene from the musical, Short said “Me and Olivia’s duet because she’s my best friend and we get to sing together”.
Short is referring to the scene where her character, Elsa, and Anna, played by Olivia Raider, share a duet in Elsa’s ice palace. They sing “I can’t Lose You”, a song about Anna and Elsa’s sisterly love and connection.
With show business comes obstacles to overcome. According to Short, the biggest obstacle for her to overcome was “The quick change that I do on stage because it’s really scary”.
In the musical, Short sings “Let It Go”, which requires her to change from her coronation gown into her ice gown. To do this change, Short is on a staircase platform while people under the stairs pull off Short’s tearaway dress to reveal her ice gown.
It was a challenging change because up until opening night, there was no railing on the platform Short was on, making it easy for her to fall, but thankfully everything worked out.
The cast and crew of the musical were hard at work preparing for the show since November 2025. Though the musical had required a lot of time and effort, Short was most looking forward to opening night because she says that it will be like “all of our hard work has paid off”.
