Pictogram Winners

In celebration of World Language Week, students drew pictograms that Spanish teacher Karen Snyder displayed in the guidance hallway.

Snyder offers the activity as a bonus activity where students can earn five bonus points for a complete pictogram (a picture or physical rendering of a word), but all students in foreign language classes can participate.

Students have one week to complete the optional assignment.

“Students do the project because they want extra credit and the world language department encourages their students to do the project to decorate the halls in celebration of World Language Week,” said Snyder.

Upon receiving all pictograms, Snyder hangs them in the hallway and asks teachers and staff to vote on their top three favorites using a ballot box in the faculty room.

The winners were sophomore Justin Bryant in first place with an image varying buildings for his word “Edificio”; junior Natalie Bradley in second place featuring a combination of letters and animals in the shape of “Animales”; and freshman Jamie Georgieff in third place with the word “Pollo” telling the story of a chicken, egg, and then chick.

Honorable mention went to sophomore Nicole Nipper whose jellyfish spelled the word “Medusa”.

Winners received a certificate as well as their bonus points.
