The Kennard-Dale Library Society has nearly reached the end of the production of the new Little Library with the help of a member’s grandfather. The project has been four years in the making and is planned to be positioned outside the cafeteria entrance, with whether or not its placement would be on the ground or cement is to be determined and discussed between Dr. Chad Brindle and the school librarian and KD Library Society supervisor, Emily Amberman.
The Library Society is planning on putting up a free leave-one-take-one Little Library near the back school entrance. This project has been in the making since the 2022 school year.
The Library Society made blueprints for the Little Library, and then our member Lola Heike’s grandfather, took the blueprints and made adjustments to them from his experience with woodworking and structures. He has been making it while the Library Society has been talking about where it’s going and gathering books, while simultaneously discussing other events and fundraisers.

Interview with Lola Hieke
Who proposed the idea for the mini library?
I did.
How long has it taken to build?
4 years, but that was just the top; we’re still figuring out the base.
Where are the initial books going to come from?
Probably from our existing members.
Did the money for the supplies come out of your grandfather’s pocket, or did the library society pay for it?
We were going to pay for it, but he went out of his way. He already had materials, but had to go to Home Depot to get more.

Interviews with the Library Society
Henry, what do you think will come out of the mini library?
Books, for one. But I think they will get the joy of reading books from a small community like Fawn Grove.
Mrs. Amberman, what do you think will come out of the mini library?
I hope that it will provide reading material for all ages at all times of the year, since it will be in a place accessible to everyone.
While the Little Library currently sits unpainted, the Library Society will soon designate painters for painting or request help from the National Art Honor Society for it’s decoration.
The Library Society will soon decide their methods of promotion for the new Little Library closer to its completion. Their goal is to promote the Little Library not only to the school, but the district and community as well.
Overall, this is an important new piece and contribution to the school because it lets kids have another resource to read books and even keep them, but also have the opportunity to leave ones that they don’t want anymore or don’t have room for.
It’s also something for them to look at or get some light reading while they wait to be picked up after their extracurriculars.
The Little Library does not have a projected finish date, but the Library Society has hopes that it will be installed and ready to use by the end of the school year.
