Most people in the world are up early for work, school, and other everyday activities. They are also usually up late doing schoolwork, working their jobs, or even just taking care of their families. But has anyone thought of having a universal nap time?
According to Kennard-Dale’s Anatomy and Physiology teacher, Michele Barrie, “A short nap could help the brain process and store information better.” Barrie also said, “ A nap could improve mood and energy levels.”
Yes, a nap can be helpful when it comes to your mood and energy levels, but also if you take too long a nap, you can still be groggy and low on energy. Even if a nap is taken, if it is too long, you may not experience all the benefits of a nap. So theoretically, if there were a universal nap time, it would have to be a strict time that starts and ends.
But Barrie also states that “Not all students would actually sleep, some would talk and be on their phones.” So do you think a universal nap time would be beneficial, even if not all kids use it correctly?
Although not everyone will take advantage of a universal nap time by sleeping, it doesn’t mean they won’t use it to just take a mental break. Even if you do just use the nap time as a brain break, it can still be useful. Helping people to just focus on taking time out of the day to do something quiet for themselves, so that the people who do use it as a nap time still can have peace.
From another perspective, having a nap time could benefit us in many other ways. According to Kennard- Dale’s Health teacher, Amy Fisher, “Taking a nap can help with a person’s mental fatigue or overwhelm, which could trigger panic or anxiety attacks.”
So if a nap could help with mental illnesses and give people a little brain break, wouldn’t you think having a universal sleep time would be a great idea?
There are pros and cons to the universal nap time. People could just use it as a time to play on their phones instead of taking advantage of the rest time they get in the middle of the day. But from what I have heard, most people would benefit from a nap time to reset and then go on with their day.
