School can be stressful for students and even teachers. Homework piles up, grades are rising or falling and the work pile for teachers makes them anxious enough while having to teach the lesson for their students. Every person who goes to school knows how it feels to only work continuously and to not have a break. Whether it is for high school or for college.
Students should have a period of free time because they have to use their brain 24/7 already for the classes they have and have to probably do work during their own free time. College students only have a class or two a day though they still have almost the same amount of work as a high school student.
College Students have longer work deadlines than high school students and have much more free time to work on assignments. Students at Kennard-Dale have Flex every other day and lunch for a free period if they do not have any work to do. If they would have a lot of work load to do, they would have to use their time during lunch, Flex and after school during their free time to make sure to get it completed.
Free periods also make it easier for teachers to plan lessons out better and grade assignments they need to do for classes without having to worry about it being done later. It could also be good for the teachers to let students refresh their minds after they had to use them a lot during the school day, especially if they had to take multiple tests and critical thinking.
Some may argue that it would not be beneficial to have a free period every day, they could think that it would be an opportunity for students to cause trouble. It may also bring more stress on teachers since they have to worry about whether they are being safe or not.
Students should have a period of free time that is not Flex, so they have a time for their brains to reset before the other classes they have without having to feel stressed out. Teachers might also benefit from it too because they can get work done during the period. Students should have a reset free period for themselves.
