Going all throughout March, the weather has had a mind of its own. Some days it wants to be rainy and cold, humid and rainy, hot and cloudy, etc, but the rain has been getting out of hand lately.
Recently, the weather has started to get more serious as reports of a strong thunderstorm called the “March Megastorm” that’s expected to hit us. According to YDR, York Daily Records, they state the thunderstorm brings, “high winds, downpours, and potential tornadoes.”
Seeing how dangerous this could be, schools in the York County district called an early dismissal to make sure the students and staff could get home safely before the weather got worse.
Schools dismissing early show how seriously people took this situation, since that doesn’t happen often unless there is a real risk.
The weather in March can be very unpredictable. One day, you will think spring is here, and the next day, you will get warnings about severe storms. The March storm was not just a rainy day with strong winds, thunder, and or lightning it was something that had people preparing for it a couple of days in advance.
Due to the warnings, many people took lots of precautions. Some families stayed inside, canceled plans, or even made sure they had things like flashlights, candles and lighters, canned goods, and even fully charged phones just in case the power did go out.
Meteorologists say the storm could cause power outages, slippery roads, trees down, etc. This made it important for people to stay alert and pay attention to the weather apps and news for any new updates on the storm.
According to Yahoo!News, Teresa Boeckel, a reporter with York Daily Records, says that Lebanon and York will have huge winds until 11 pm on March 16th. It was expected to see winds 20 to 30 mph with high gusts up to 50 mph. Boeckel also talked about how there will be severe showers and thunderstorms developing in the afternoon and also in the evening.
The wind got so bad during the storm that it even made a roof collapse in North Codorus Township, PA. Additionally, the top of a silo behind the barn was also blown off in the storm.
Even though storms like this do not always end up being as bad as you think, it is always better to be prepared way ahead of time, just in case it comes out of nowhere.
Weather forecasts are based on data and patterns, but they can also change quickly and at random. That is why people are always encouraged to take warnings seriously instead of ignoring them.
The ‘March Megastorm’ is a good example of how crazy and unpredictable weather can be during this month. March is known for having lots of changes in weather, but this storm showed it can go from being just like summer time one day, but then right back to being stormy and cold the next.
As the month of March continues, it is likely that the weather will keep changing and keep people on their feet.
